Elder Scrolls VI Is Not Coming to PlayStation 5 and Won’t be Released Until 2026 at the Earliest

The much-anticipated Elder Scrolls VI has been among the most speculation and anticipation in the gaming community. The exclusivity of The Elder Scrolls 6 was one of the many unanswered questions following Microsoft’s $7.5 billion acquisition of Bethesda in 2021. Documents from Microsoft’s ongoing lawsuit with the FTC have surfaced online, and one critical slide reveals that the company has no intentions to bring The Elder Scrolls VI to PlayStation and the title won’t be making its debut on PS5.

The document was revealed on X (formerly known as Twitter) and showed a list of announced Bethesda games along with their platform and release window intentions. The document also states that The Elder Scrolls VI will be launched in 2026 at the earliest and will not feature multiplayer.

The Elder Scrolls VI, which was initially unveiled at E3 2018, will be the first single-player entry in the well-known Elder Scrolls series of massive open-world RPGs. Otherwise, there hasn’t been much news about the title, and Bethesda has just recently launched their second enormous, long-in-development RPG, the space-themed Starfield on Xbox and PC.

This exclusivity news concerning The Elder Scrolls VI should not come as a surprise. After all, after purchasing ZeniMax, Microsoft made Starfield exclusive to Xbox and PC, so it’s only natural that the company’s next title would follow likewise. Todd Howard, the game’s director, recently mentioned that Starfield is a stronger game as the title it didn’t come to PlayStation.

Microsoft’s paperwork and Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer’s statements do not quite match. Spencer was previously cited as noting that the firm evaluates platform availability for its titles on a case-by-case basis, rather than announcing categorically that the game would not be released on PlayStation 5. The upcoming Indiana Jones game from MachineGames is more likely to be an Xbox and PC exclusive.

Spencer stated in June, as part of the Microsoft-FTC court dispute, that the platforms for The Elder Scrolls VI had not yet been finalized, in part due to the game’s impending release.

“With Elder Scrolls VI, it’s so far out–it’s hard to understand what platforms will even be at this point,” Spencer stated. “It’s the same team that’s finishing Starfield, which comes out this September. So we’re talking about a game that’s like five-plus years away.”

Microsoft is making progress on new Xbox hardware, and the next console generation is expected to launch in 2028, thus The Elder Scrolls VI could appear whenever the next Xbox is out.
